Brooklyn, Ohio – The Avon Eagles (10-0-0) went up against the Bay Rockets (5-5-0) for the first round of the Baron Cup Quarterfinal II. As the players skated on the ice, Avon Eagles are rocking the white/purple and the Bay Rockets rocked the very patriotic red/white/blue. Avon defeated Bay 4-2 to move onto the winner of the NDCL or Benedictine.
Early in the first period, both teams were physical and fast pace but Avon took an early lead from a shot by Shane Doherty with 5:21 to play in the first period with the help of his teammate Zach Zweircki that helped them take a 1-0 lead.
The second period was a hard-hitting battle between both teams. Bay Rockets bounced back and tied the game with 5:30 left due to a goal from Jake Gaudino and assist from Will Kenney to make it 1-1. Avon would answer back with two consecutive goals from Ian Darbe and Will Kenney respectively.
The final period started and Avon started off hot with a goal by Jake Gaudino at the 12:56 mark to slim the lead down to a 3-2 lead by the Avon Eagles. Avon matched Bay’s goal by getting a goal to extend the lead to 4-2 with 8:42 to go in the battle to move on in the Baron Cup.
