By: Cole Liggett

Brooklyn, Ohio – There was not a seat empty inside the John M. Coyne Center for the Baron Cup II championship as the Avon Eagles (10-0-0) went up against the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs (6-4-0). This was their sixth meeting this year alone, as Avon won all five match-ups this season but history changed tonight as the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs defeated the Avon Eagles to a score of 6 to 1 in the Baron Cup II Championship.

In the first period the Bulldogs put pressure on the Avon Eagles as they took many shots early but nothing landed.  A goal by senior forward, Zach Zwiercki at the 4:08 mark to have the Avon Eagles up early 1-0 in the first to give them the momentum early.

Olmsted Falls bounces back and scores a goal to tie it all up at the 8:53 mark from freshman Zach Henley. With 5:34 to go, senior Shane Docherty was put in the sin bin for slashing. Upon that, Avon scores a power play goal off the stick of Cam Wilson to put the Bulldogs infront 2-1 in the first period.

In the middle period, the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs came out hot as they had crisp passing early while Avon had missed opportunities as they could not capitalize off open opportunities that would of put them back into the game.

Avon had more penalty trouble as Jacob Falls goes into the penalty box for cross checking and Owen McDougal for tripping which helped the Bulldogs with opening the third period with a man up.

The third period was a high scoring period for the Bulldogs as they scored four goals in the final 15 minutes of the Baron Cup II Championship and it was all started off with a short handed goal by Bailey Carson that helped Olmsted Falls extend their lead to two.

Shortly after, Patrick Kerr got a goal with 5:30 to go. Avon were desperate as they emptied out the net as it later was a mistake as Olmsted Falls’ Will Moyse hit a empty net goal that made it 5-1 with 4:30 to go. Olmsted Falls answered again as a minute later they extended their lead to 6-1 after a short handed goal by Dominic Conte.

Olmsted Falls defeated the Avon Eagles to a score of 6 to 1 and are crowned the Baron Cup II champions.
