BROOKLYN, Ohio – It was a packed house inside the John M. Coyne Center as Brooklyn Hurricanes (12-0-0) battle against the Aurora Greenmen (6-5-1). It was a wild game as both teams battled but Aurora came out on top after a wild finish winning it 5 to 4.
In the first, the Greenmen started of their day by scoring a goal 17 seconds into the game with a goal from Tomi Piriren to jump to a 1-0 lead. Later on in the first period, Pirinen scores another goal to extend their lead.
Brooklyn bounced back as they scored a goal from a power play to make it a 2-1 contest. At the end of the first period, both teams ran into trouble as Joe Capretta got a misconduct penalty for kicking a player and was ejected with 40 seconds to go in the first period.
Early in the middle period, the crowd went wild as Brooklyn’s Matt Crossman scores a goal to tie the game up at two. Aaron Wrost scores a goal minutes later to have the Hurricanes extend their lead to a 3 to 2. Brooklyn got on a hot streak as Travis Nieves scores to make it a 4 to 2 contest to close out the second period.
The third period is when the game took a turn as Tomi Pirinen gets a hat trick and slims the lead down to one. With seconds ticking down until the final buzzer freshman Patrick Murray scores his first career goal to tie the game up at 4-4 and sends the game into overtime.
It was a crazy, fast paced overtime period, but the Greenmen came out on top 5-4 after Nick Capretta scores the game winning shot to have the Aurora Greenmen punch their ticket to the championship game and will face CVCA in the Baron Cup III championship on Sunday at 1:00pm.
